Meet Marielle Gomez ′20
What is your major?
Where in the Bay Area do you live?
I live in the Garlic Capital of the World, Gilroy!
Why did you choose to attend SU for your undergraduate degree?
I love what the school has to offer. It’s a beautiful campus with many opportunities. There are so many clubs and extracurricular activities that you can get involved in here, that it’s impossible for someone to ever be bored!
What do you feel are SU's best qualities?
Everyone here at Syracuse is so welcoming and I feel as though everyone wants me to succeed. There are a plethora of ways to get help for your classes like the academic excellence workshops—one-credit courses that reiterate what you learned in lecture, supplemental instruction sessions run by students who previously succeeded in the course, the Writing Center, and many more.
What is it about your SU experience that has impacted you the most?
I came to Syracuse the summer before my fall semester to participate in SummerStart. I got to know a lot of people and since engineering majors have the same classes in SummerStart, I made great connections with students who are in the engineering program with me.
How have your SU experiences changed you?
I have become more independent during my time at Syracuse, but I also have learned that if I need help, all I need to do is ask. I have great friends who are always willing to help, and I am supplied with a great staff that is always open to assisting me in my every need.
