New Student Send-Offs 2015

group12New students from the Bay Area and Sacramento were given a taste of what to expect when they arrived on the Syracuse University campus for the start of the fall semester. On July 18, 12 new students and their families gathered at the Hyatt Regency Airport Hotel in San Francisco for a meet-and-greet designed to give them information and answer any questions they had.

“I asked questions about class sizes and living quarters, and nothing I asked was not fully answered,” says Pacifica resident Elizabeth Russell, parent of new student Taylor Russell ’19. “The alumni club members that were here to support the team from Syracuse University were very courteous and friendly—they spent a lot of time with us. Now I know where to go to get any questions answered. The send-off was really great.”

Leanne Aban ’19 found the information about shuttle services to shopping and entertainment venues in Syracuse especially helpful. “I didn’t really know how I was going to get around,” she says. “The student send-off helped a lot with the transition for parents, not just for students. We also got to mingle with students from the same area.”

The first-ever Sacramento-area New Student Send-Off was hosted by Tyson Hubbard L’08 and his wife, Jessica, at their home in Davis on August 2. Seven students attended the event and had the chance to hear from University representatives and current students.

“We are so grateful to our area alumni and the NorCal Alumni Club for their help in making these events such a success,” says Pauline Saraceni, interim director of alumni clubs in the Office of Alumni Engagement. “By sharing their experiences and love of the Orange, our alums build excitement in our new students, inspiring them to look forward to their own years at the University. We appreciate all our alumni do for SU.”
