SUccess in the City San Francisco Style

Bay Area alumni had a chance to meet and network at two recent events. Tamara Newcombe ’88, vice president of Sales-West Area for Cisco, hosted a Success in the City: San Francisco event on August 7 at the Cisco offices in Milpitas, California. After welcoming the 39 people attending the gathering, which included regional council members and area alumni, Newcombe shared information about her career, and stressed the importance of networking.

The guest speaker was Alejandro Amezcua G’05, G’10, assistant professor of entrepreneurship in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, shown at left with Alicia Santamaria ’93. Amezcua spoke about entrepreneurship and led a lively discussion about the advantages of building a business.

An event held the next night at Edelman San Francisco clearly illustrated the power of social networking. “When we were looking for space to hold SUccess in the City: San Francisco, SU social media mavens Kim Brown ′06 and Dan Klamm ’08 discovered one of our alumni, Michael Kuczkowski ’92, is general manager of Edelman San Francisco,” says Tina Casella, SU’s associate director of alumni relations. “Kim reached out to him and he was very excited about hosting an event at Edelman, even though he would be unable to attend that evening.” With a one-day turn-around, the event was planned, e-vites sent, and 29 people attended the gathering. Rebecca Neufeld ’06 served as host in Kuczkowski’s absence, and was joined by two other SU alums and Edelman employees, Kate Shay ’03 and Adam Rosenberg ’03.
